The Dutch government has announced a deal with Nvidia to secure the supply of advanced hardware and expertise for a potential artificial intelligence (AI) facility. This partnership is a critical step in the Netherlands' efforts to establish an AI "supercomputer" that will support research and development, further strengthening the European Union's digital economy initiatives.
In 2024, the Netherlands allocated €204.5 million ($210 million) to AI investments, with additional European subsidies aimed at advancing technological development. Economy Minister Dirk Beljaarts emphasized that this agreement significantly enhances the likelihood of realizing the AI project, noting the global competition for such technologies.
"The entire world is competing for this technology," Beljaarts stated after a meeting with Nvidia representatives in Silicon Valley. "This deal makes the prospect of building a Dutch AI facility much more attainable."
